The Human Machine
The tenth studio album from legendary death metal icons MASTER, The Human Machine is brimming with old-school jarring death/thrash riffs and crust-inspired attitude with the leathery gargle of mainman Paul Speckmann leading the charge. Recorded at Shaark Studios (Root, Fleshless, etc) in Bzenec, Czech Republic with Speckmann at the producing helm, The Human Machine heeds to no trends or rules and finds the shamefully unsung outfit at their most devouring. An unpretentious, merciless audio assault; true “Speck Metal!” In addition, the disc features stunning cover art by Eliran Kantor (Testament, Sigh, Anacrusis et.) and is available in a standard version and an alternate slipcase version with different artwork. Said Kantor of the decision to do two covers: “The basic idea is to have a continuation of the story told in the real front cover, after the two policemen picked up the criminal from the floor. It’s a lot simpler; it’s a brand new image that will add value to this limited edition, and at the same time it reacts naturally with the real cover and the overall theme carried throughout the album, as this album has a specific subject matter and the ‘arrest’ scene is based on Paul’s original idea.”

SALEM
Playing God And Other Short Stories
Released earlier this year, Playing God And Other Short Stories is the latest full-length from legendary Israeli extreme metallers SALEM. The band’s seventh studio album since forming in 1985 was recorded at Harold Studios in Israel and mastered by UE Nastasi at the prestigious Sterling Sound in NYC. Playing God And Other Short Stories includes a guest vocal appearance by At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg, (on “The Mark Of The Beast Part 1” and “The Mark Of The Beast Part 2”) as well as a cover of Bob Marley’s “Exodus.”
Other SALEM notes of interest:
• SALEM was the first Israeli band to be put in regular rotation on MTV’s Headbangers Ball.
• SALEM was the first extreme metal band to have done a full-length studio album accompanied by a full string quartet. The unusual co-operation led to the band playing a live set with an all-girl string quartet from Israel.
• Mayhem frontman Attila Csihar performed with SALEM in 2005 live on stage, covering two of Mayhem’s most memorable songs: “Freezing Moon” and “Deathcrush.”
• Playing God And Other Short Stories is the first album in SALEM’s history to move away from their strong political subjects. Instead, the new album is loosely based around the concept of super heroes.

The latest full-length from Swedish melancholic metallers IN MOURNING, Monolith was recorded at Black Lounge Studio (Scar Symmetry, Carnal Forge, Steel Attack etc.) with producer/producer Jonas Kjellgren (Carnal Forge, Centinex etc.) and features striking artwork by Travis Smith (Nevermore, Opeth, Strapping Young Lad, King Diamond, etc). Picking up where they their Shrouded Divine debut left off, Monolith is sonically and aesthetically lamenting, and is without a doubt one of 2010’s pinnacle albums.
