BACKWOODS PAYBACK guitarist/vocalist Mike Cummings recently unleashed Confessions of a Lackluster Performer, a collection of a writings by a musician/artist who’s been neck-deep in the U.S. underground music scene since the age of 15. These collected works capture the fine line between desperation and self-realization, depression and rejoice, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The book was initially issued in 2009. An updated edition with new works from the author and an introduction from acclaimed solo artist and co-founder of the legendary band Life Of Agony, Keith Caputo is now available. Turn on. Tune in. After touring the country relentlessly for five years, the singer of a Pennsylvania hardcore band decided to stop everything, lock himself in his basement and turn a new page. Armed with a four-track and a life long obsession with Neil Young, Black Flag and Sabbath, he re-emerged two days later with the blueprint for what would become BACKWOODS PAYBACK. With the help of a few like-minded individuals the band transformed into fully operational Death Star of riffage before the end of that year.
Staying true to the D.I.Y. sensibilities of their past, BACKWOODS PAYBACK spread their word one song, town and person at a time. The band toured the U.S. whenever possible, self-recorded and released their own EPs and full-lengths and acted (and continue acting) as hosts and goodwill ambassadors of sorts to touring bands from all over the world. Small bar shows led to bigger ones and weekend tours turned into month-long jaunts. After several years and countless trips crisscrossing the country, BACKWOODS PAYBACK found themselves sharing the stage with the likes of The Hidden Hand, Exodous, Gwar and Cradle Of Filth.
