With the release of BANGLADEAFY‘s debut full-length release, Ribboncutter, through Nefarious Industries last week still fresh, Gear Gods is now hosting a playthrough video for the album’s “Steam.”
Through their two prior EPs – 2013’s The Briefcase and 2016’s Narcopaloma – BANGLADEAFY has proven itself as an unstoppable and almost unclassifiable force under the umbrella of technical metal. The band’s moniker reflects its two members, merging reference to bombastic drummer Atif Haq’s Bangladeshi bloodline and the physical impairment of bassist/pianist/vocalist Jon Ehlers, who, alongside his two sisters, was born with sensio-neural hearing loss. The band has created a singular style of avant-progressive, technically super-proficient, and overall stunning style of pummeling sound that comes roaring forth on their debut album, Ribboncutter.
Filmed by Nick Spadafora, BANGLADEAFY‘s “Steam” playthrough video shows the duo’s vocalist/bassist/synth player Jon Ehlers performing the track’s rambunctious and technical basslines. “It’s not often you get a band that combines the genres of tech, world, and thrash, but when you do, BANGLADEAFY are the ones doing it right,” Gear Gods issues with the video’s debut, commenting on “Steam” in particular, “As with most of the music from these guys, this track has a lot going on. Although it barely beats the two-minute mark, the tune pummels you with the aggressive basslines of Ehlers, the hypnotic percussion of Haq, and enough dizzying synth lines to write home about. It’s a banger in the truest sense, and doesn’t let you go until it’s had its way with you, and we wouldn’t want it any other way.”

BANGLADEAFY recorded Ribboncutter‘s bass and synth tracks at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves with Colin Marston, the drums by Mike Perotta at Ridge Hill Sound and Michael Gatto at Gatto Records, and the vocals by Jonathan Vergara at Pancake Studios, who also mixed and mastered the original tracks, which were then mastered for vinyl by Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering. The album is completed with photography by Brian Bonelli and art design by Nick Spadafora.
Ribboncutter is now available digitally and in a limited CD run through Nefarious Industries, with the 12″ vinyl cut at 45rpm arriving in October. Place CD orders and LP preorders at the Nefarious webshop HERE and Bandcamp where the entire album is streaming HERE.
Watch for a new official video from Ribboncutter to be issued over the days ahead.
