“Synonymph” is the lead track to the debut by New York City-Based exploratory/alternative metal outfit, BRANDON SEABROOK’S NEEDLE DRIVER. With the Needle Driver record confirmed for release through Nefarious Industries in late October, Invisible Oranges has debuted the opening anthem.

Offers Seabrook with the new song’s debut, “‘Synonymph’ is a collision of harsh atmospherics, dense textural and technical expression of our reality…”

Invisible Oranges writes, “‘The song opens with an increasingly uncomfortable tickle attack, each instrument nimbly landing where you least expect it and at alarming speeds. The further it eases off the ears rhythmically, the more it piles on the discomfort with ‘twist the knife’ harmony. During the piece’s string heavy bridge, as close as it gets to subdued, the instruments grind against each other, revealing in the ugliest bends of harmony that they can find to hang on. That same disharmonious snarl gets carried over to the song’s climax where the band returns to the dizzying speed of ‘Synonymph”s introduction. It’s a similar kind of “musicianship as a cudgel” approach that bands like Helmet, Unsane, Behold The Arctopus, and countless others have used to punish New York audiences for decades. Seabrook, Miller, and Deblase carry on that legacy with devilish competence.”

The Needle Driver EP bears the debut recordings by the newest project of New York-based avant-jazz guitarist Brandon Seabrook, also of Die Trommel Fatale, Seabrook Power Plant, and many others. He’s been named “NYC’s Best Guitarist” by the Village Voice, his work has been profiled by NPR, The Wall Street Journal, Fret Board Journal, and more. Formed in 2012 for a set at the Alternative Guitar Festival in NYC, BRANDON SEABROOK’S NEEDLE DRIVER also features drum leviathan Allison Miller (Ani Defranco), and electric bass virtuoso Johnny Deblase (Zevious, Sabbath Assembly).

The material on the Needle Driver EP was written by creator Brandon Seabrook and sharpened over a two-year period of ceaseless rehearsing and steadfast guerrilla tactics. Damaged skronk, asymmetric time signatures, fractured guitar blasts, and hulking bass are the hallmarks of this trio. Needle Driver was recorded, mixed and mastered by legendary engineer Martin Bisi (Swans, Sonic Youth) in the cavernous BC Studios. Incredibly diverse tones run deep through the record, with jaw-dropping musicianship bursting forth from each member, with unfathomably complex arrangements shining through gleaming, ethereal soundscapes, resulting in a unique, immersive, and impressive listening experience.

Watch for additional music from Needle Driver to be issued in the weeks ahead.

BRANDON SEABROOK’S NEEDLE DRIVER will be playing a release show for the EP on October 3rd, joined by labelmates Bangladeafy, and more.
