Eolian Empire Update: All Portland’s Noise Fit To Post:
DIESTO, DEAD, HONDURAN, BIG BLACK CLOUD, DRUNK DAD, REDNECK, RABBITS…
If the plethora of updates on the Eolian Empire’s prime and gnarly noisebandits and plastered platters below aren’t enough to occupy your time, get grimy with a get-down interrogation of the deviants who run this D.I.Y. clusterfuck of a label with Fuzz And Hellfire HERE.
And now, all the Eolian noise that’s fit to post:
Today, DIESTO will embark on their widespread tour of the Wild West in support of their just-released fifth album For Water Or Blood, which is already garnering great reviews from the likes of Sorrow Eternal,
and The Sludgelord, who called DIESTO “one of the finest sludge/stoner metal bands currently out there.” DIESTO also recently released their killer video for “Edge Of The World,” featuring a strangely creepy performance from Lord Dying’s Erik Olson. Check out the full tour itinerary below and view the “Edge Of The World” video HERE.

Aussie drum and bass duo (the other kind) DEAD made it home safely after three weeks in the States slaying every band in sight. They so impressed everyone who saw them that only a few copies of the super-limited Eolian stateside deluxe-packaged pressing of their latest LP Idiots are still available HERE, “one you will want to hear, if you are a fan of the loud, noisy and weird” says Verbicide. Just before they split for Melbourne they hammered out their next record with Toshi Kasai (Melvins, Big Business) in LA, and discussions for a joint release between Eolian and DEAD‘s label We Empty Rooms are underway. We can’t wait to get them back here.
HONDURAN‘s grimy new LP Street Eagles continues to draw praise from all over, being called “a violent gyre of variable aggressions” by Pitchfork and a “heft slab of pissed-off noise” by Terrorizer, while continuing to destroy at every show, including their recent set opening for Atriarch and VHOL. A video by Adam Cornelius, who also directed the Diesto video, is in the works.
BIG BLACK CLOUD bombed brains with the premiere of their video for “Bomb My Brain” from their latest LP Black Friday over at Brooklyn Vegan, with SLUG Magazine calling the record “an acid/meth hybrid trip through a poisonous snake pit in a Midwest graveyard” and Black Insect Laughter saying “hardcore and noise-rock rarely sound as fucked up and beautiful at the same time as this.” Guitarist/vocalist Nick Capello gave a great no-bullshit interview in Philthy Mag, and you can catch BIG BLACK CLOUD later this year on Dirty Laundry TV.
DRUNK DAD? Yep, still drinking. Tiny Mix Tapes called it when they said their EP Morbid Reality “unfurls a personality hairy as a woolly mammoth and crushing as when that mammoth sits on your grape of a head till it goes [pop].” Expect more nonsense from these sludge-fuckers (or is it fuck-sludgers?): new songs unveiled at their most recent shows point straight down… they must know it’s down there somewhere.
A full-length harsh noise cassette from REDNECK will be out early this Fall. Guaranteed to tweak if not wreck your mind with the over-amplified sounds of chopped wood and broken glass, our favorite backwoodsman and long-standing member of the Portland noise scene will confront you with his harsh reality. Be glad it’s just a tape and he’s not all in your face LIKE THIS. You can get into his stoned mind (if you dare) in his interview with “Newt Gingrich” in a car on the Cinco Sanders show.
A limited RABBITS cassette of rare tracks dubbed S.O.S. (Singles, Other Shit) is due out in November, also to be released on Czech label Stoned to Death (oh yeah). Tracks from the extensive Rabbitshit archive have been collected from the last eight (?) years of recordings, including bonus tracks from their Relapse and Good To Die LPs, plus tracks from 7″ and super-limited early CDRs, compilations, and otherwise unreleased noise. The B-side of the cassette will include nine hardcore and punk covers RABBITS has been ruining in live sets for years, including one beloved 90s Pacific Northwest song featuring guest vocalist Jonnie Monroe of Fist Fite, who sang “Meth Valley 99” on Bites Rites. A video and trip down a memory lane of show flyers will accompany the cassette’s release.
And Eolian is pleased to announce a triple-dose of wild and weird releases for early next year: the brutal no-wave bass/drum duo (and recent DEAD touring partners) TOWERS; experimental drum duo HOT VICTORY, and ultra-heavy marijuanauts PRIZEHOG. Stay (down)tuned for more details this Fall.
