“Indiana fuzz merchants FAERIE RING take us back to the earliest sounds of underground heaviness while suggesting a brutal and bright future for this manner of sludge and spectacle.” — PopMatters
PopMatters is currently streaming The Clearing, the debut full-length from Indiana-based fuzz rock collective FAERIE RING. The premiere comes on the eve of its release via King Volume Records.
Writes the esteemed blog, “The Evansville… outfit establishes its fuzzed-out madness via the opening ‘Bite The Ash,’ dancing madly backward on a sea of Captain Beyond dust that carries on throughout the psychedelic-flavored set, including the super spooky ‘Lost Wind,’ the none-more-slower ‘Somnium,’ and the aptly-titled ‘Heavy Trip.’ Forget Dungeons & Dragons, FAERIE RING may actually open up some new portal in the universe, thrusting you into worlds previously unknown and all manners of unspeakable magic. Not for the faint of heart or the weak in imagination.”
Stream The Clearing, exclusively via PopMatters, at THIS LOCATION.
The Clearing will be released on June 7th on digital and vinyl formats via King Volume Records. For preorders visit the label Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION. For European preorders visit Kozmik Artifactz at THIS LOCATION.
Recorded and mixed at Hickory Sound Recording by Aaron Travis and mastered at Cauliflower Audio, FAERIE RING expands on the green haze of Sleep and the rocking, desert grooves of Kyuss. Clearly rooted in the art of riff worship, the band weaves all that is heavy and psychedelic into a single breathing ecosystem, each track evoking a new sense of wonder, like wandering through a towering forest displaced from time.
FAERIE RING will bring their riffs to the stage at the Buzz/Cut Queer Music Fest in Indianapolis this September with additional live dates to be announced in the weeks to come.

What began as an after-work jam in 2016 between guitarist Kyle Hulgus and drummer Joey Rhew quickly bloomed into a full-fledged project with the addition of guitarist/vocalist James Wallwork and bassist Alex Henderson. Shortly thereafter, FAERIE RING employed the help of local recording savant Aaron Travis to pick up what was recorded in a small room and make it sound like it was being blasted out of the Earth itself. There are no gimmicks involved in what FAERIE RING manifest; no need to fly to some rustic cathedral in a faraway land for recording aesthetic. The band simply put big amps in a tiny room with linoleum floors and drop ceilings and hit the “Record” button. Tune in; drop out.
“…a sonically gifted slab of seven killer tracks of inspired stoner rock excellence. The four piece deliver the goods without pause and while their sound is familiar, it has the feeling of excitement that comes with finding an old comfy band shirt or pair of jeans that make you feel alright all over.” — Outlaws Of The Sun
“Each song is a journey with quiet valleys and thundering peaks that reveal more and more with repeated listens. While still capturing the spontaneity and rawness of their initial jam sessions, it manages to be a sophisticated offering with sharp grooves and wistful passages that build to crushing crescendos.” – Indy Metal Vault
