Outburst Guest DJ Special – New York City’s Outburst will be taking over the guest DJ show today with drummer Joe Songco as the host and other band members dropping in. Outburst was one of several dozen “second wave hardcore” bands and peers with the likes of Leeway, Gorilla Biscuits, and Raw Deal, fusing metal and punk in a brave new world of the late ’80s. During their short lifespan, Outburst recorded a demo, appeared on two legendary NYHC compilations, and one EP. Celebrating three decades of this influential band, Blackout! Records is reissuing an ultra-limited, expanded LP edition of their 1989 Miles To Go EP, with remastered versions of demo tracks and compilation tracks, as well as the full EP. GIMME METAL is excited to be offering an exclusive ditmars dust (a/k/a white) variant, limited to just 100 copies. Visit shop.gimmeradio.com and grab your copy today. Today’s show will reair Sunday, October 18th at 5:00pm EST / 2:00pm PST and again on METAL 2 Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00pm EST/ 4:00pm PST following GIMME Hardcore.
Ripple Music Label Guest DJ Special – After launching the great Ripple Effect blog and radio show in 2007, Ripple Music inevitably became a label and go-to destination for the rise of great proto-metal reissues from the likes of the JPT Scare Band and Poobah. Today, the California label thrives with a slew of heavy/stoner/doom releases in its stable, including Warcloud, Cortez, High Priestess, Stonebirds, Wino, and more. Label co-founder Todd Severin takes over for a special on GIMME to show off his wares and play some other faves of the genre.
Enterprise Earth Guest DJ Special – Foundation Of Bones is the new EP from death metal practitioners Enterprise Earth. Out now via Entertainment One (eOne), the EP serves as a surprise bridge piece from their latest full-length effort, Luciferous, into the work being laid down for their forthcoming LP and also marks the band’s first self-produced output. The EP offers up brand new bruiser “Foundations Of Bones,” as well as two cover tunes – Necrophagist’s “Fermented Offal Discharge” and Lamb Of God’s “Now You’ve Got Something To Die For” – an acoustic version of “There Is No Tomorrow” from their previously released Luciferous LP, and an instrumental edition of the title track. Guitarist Gabe Mangold checks in with a DJ special this Monday. Don’t miss it!
DevilDriver Guest DJ Special – DevilDriver have spent nearly two decades pursuing a course of uncompromising artistry and nonsense-free dedication to the road. Led by the prolific Dez Fafara, the Californian crew have earned their reputation as one of the hardest working bands on the planet, while issuing a steady succession of brutal but distinctive albums along the way. To celebrate the release of Dealing With Demons I (Napalm), Fafara himself hosts a special on the GIMME METAL 2 channel dedicated to showcasing his hardcore roots! Tune in this Tuesday!
Heggvegr (Johan and Maria Hegg) All-New program: Heggvegr: the way of the Heggs in old Norse. Join Johan and Maria Hegg as they try to walk a sustainable path for themselves and for the planet, as there is no planet B. For that path to be lasting and enjoyable to walk of course, it’s paved by rock, metal, and perhaps something primordial. Heggvegr will continue to air sporadically throughout the upcoming year. GIMME listeners can also hear Johan’s archived shows on his own with Hammer Of The North as well as Maria’s Mind Of Metal. Tipjar proceeds on Heggvegr will benefit Rescue Dogs Rock NYC (rescuedogsrocknyc.org).
Necrophobic Guest DJ – Anders Strokirk of Necrophobic comes by the house to chat and also pilot a guest DJ special with Gimme DJ Alex Kayne on The Slaughterhouse. Plus, GIMME‘s store (shop.gimmeradio.com) has an exclusive Necrophobic t-shirt available in celebration of the release of the band’s new record, Dawn Of The Damned. With thirty years of active, nefarious service under their bullet belts, Necrophobic are undisputed legends of the death and black metal underground. Formed in 1989 by drummer Joakim Sterner, the Stockholm blackhearts propagated a singular and fearless vision from the very start, confirming their prowess with now legendary debut album The Nocturnal Silence in 1993. Eschewing the self-conscious amateurism and primitive sonics that many of their peers held dear, Necrophobic established a bold and vivid identity of their own, conjuring a densely melodic but endlessly wicked take on macabre extreme metal that countless lesser bands have since emulated.
Thou Guest DJ Special – Thou was formed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2005, and quickly established themselves as heavyweight purveyors of atmospheric/experimental doom with overtones of stoner and sludge metal. Their monolithic sound has held steady through five LPs and a mind boggling array of EPs, singles, and collaborations. Their latest release on Sacred Bones, May Our Chambers Be Full, features their musical summit with post rock-infused folkie Emma Ruth Rundle. The two find a common ground in the mix and the results evoke some of the more lysergic moments of ’90s Seattle in a downtuned, melancholic fashion. Check out the LP, and join guitarist Andy Gibbs for an exclusive DJ special on GIMME which will also preview the LP. As always, please support our musical friends sidelined from touring with some tipjar engagement.
Trivium Guest DJ Special – Formed in Orlando in 1999, Trivium’s inimitable hybrid of melodic death, metalcore, and thrash quickly gained a reputation on the world stage. The band toured with heroes like Metallica and Iron Maiden, created an immense cache of international fandom and powered their way through nine studio albums, the latest being What The Dead Men Say. During lockdown, they’ve continued their mastery of live streaming events, and we’re extremely excited that frontman Matt Heafy has taken the mic for a guest special at GIMME, where he’ll be socking us with an aggressive playlist of underground and known faves.
