Experimental solo outfits GRIDFAILURE and S.C.R.A.M. have both created new videos for songs found on their split EP, released independently last year, to celebrate the record’s new limited cassette version.
Dissimilar to most split releases, here, the songs alternate within the track listing, forming an ebb-and-flow between both artist’s contributions. GRIDFAILURE’s material was written, performed, recorded, and mixed by David Brenner at The Compound in Valley Cottage, New York, and the S.C.R.A.M. tracks written, performed, recorded, and mixed by Pranjal Tiwari at The Sarcophagus in Oakland, California. The EP was mastered by Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering in Nashville, Tennessee (Kool Keith, Many Blessings, Thetan), and the cover was created with photography by Tiwari and Brenner, manipulated/designed by Brenner.
Following its initial release exclusively through Bandcamp in August of 2021, the split has now been released through other prime digital services and has been reworked for a new limited cassette version, now available on Tiwari’s newly formed cassette label Tumbril’s Wedge.
With the cassette release, GRIDFAILURE presents a new video for “Special Dead,” a rampantly disorienting visual assault for the violently discordant track, the video filmed and directed by David Brenner. S.C.R.A.M. simultaneously delivers a visual accompaniment for “Reactor Pressure Vessel,” an amphetamine fueled ride through nuclear paranoia, atomic anxiety on acid, cut by Pranjal Tiwari with post-effects by Brenner.

The GRIDFAILURE/S.C.R.A.M. split – including the limited Opaque Yellow cassette version – is available through GRIDFAILURE’s Bandcamp HERE and the S.C.R.A.M. Bandcamp HERE.
A collaborative effort between the two artists has been loosely devised and will likely begin shortly.
Lower Hudson/NYC-based GRIDFAILURE is the audiovisual entity David Brenner, yielding dense, tension-filled output, with elements of dark ambient and dark hardcore, infused with jazz, world music, folk, harsh noise, electronica, punk, and more. Operating solo or with a cast of collaborators, the project has amassed dozens of independent releases, including collaborative albums, splits, and more. While GRIDFAILURE regularly releases material independently and through Nefarious Industries, the project will release new records through Anti-Corporate Music as well as Today Is The Day founder Steve Austin’s SuperNova Records next year.
Oakland, California-based S.C.R.A.M. (Safety Control Rod Axe Man) is the solo project of Oakland, California-based musician Pranjal Tiwari. Known for his work with the long-running cult doom metal band Cardinal Wyrm, with this project, Tiwari utilizes this project to create cinematic, experimental, ambient, electronic, and heavily instrumental passages, focusing tension and negative space to create immersive auras. With an EP, two albums, and this split on the books, additional new material is constantly in the works.
