GYRE: MetalSucks Premieres “Wanting More” From New Jersey Trio As Shared Visions Album Nears June Release

MetalSucks has premiered the first single from Shared Visions, the debut album by New Jersey rock/metal outfit, GYRE, through a lyric video for the album’s “Wanting More.” Shared Visions features ten sprawling new tracks mixed and mastered by Kevin Antressian (The Dillinger Escape Plan) and will see release in June.

After three EP’s, and following nearly two years of sculpting, chiseling, and capturing ideas, GYRE — formed by members of the metallic hybrid Junta and others — presents their debut album, Shared Visions. Returning to a three-piece once again, full-circle to where they started, the band’s chemistry is at an all-time high. The current lineup created more music together faster than ever before. With a certain ease, a fever dream, the members have pushed to become one seamless entity in the delivery of their songcraft.

The band offers of the first single from the record, “‘Wanting More’ was the second song we wrote as a three piece. It captures what we are now are where we are headed. It is a song about ‘wanting more,’ letting go of people and things that negatively hold you back and overcoming the self-doubt that goes along with it. ‘Wanting More’ was probably the quickest song we have ever written. We know it’s cliché, but it seemed like it was writing itself. Originally, it was based off the opening riff that Juan created, and then like all of our songs, it was bounced off the other two members until we all just felt its essence was captured. We had the most fun we’ve ever had writing this album. Three people that easily share in that joie de vivre and amor fati.”

Declares MetalSucks of the single, “It’s heavy and melodic, it’s proggy but not in a navel gazing kind of way, and it melds a wide array of influences without sounding schizophrenic. Think Crack the Skye-era Mastodon, but somehow both heavier and poppier, and you have some idea what you’re in for.”

GYRE will independently release Shared Visions digitally on Friday, June 15th; the band has launched a new band website at under gyreband.com and has relaunched their Bandcamp at gyreband.bandcamp.com where preorders are available.

GYRE has always drawn from multiple sources of inspiration in creating their music. With a surge of heavy metal in the vein of Mastodon and Mutoid Man, going head-to-head with the progressive tendencies of Lazer/Wulf, Russian Circles and the rock of Baroness, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Muse, there still lies traces of electronic, world, and folk music that are in constant motion just under the surface. Although outside influences are abundant, the main ingredient in their creations is an understanding of what each individual song is calling for; it’s about listening to what feels right and making good decisions that serve the song. It’s been quite the journey to get to this point of clarity, but the equation is simple — a shared vision amongst friends.

With fifty minutes of multi-textured explosive music, GYRE‘s Juan Soaz recorded and produced Shared Visions, after which the band once again worked with Kevin Antreassian of the late, great The Dillinger Escape Plan at his Backroom Studios in New Jersey to dial in the mix and master.

Watch for additional audio and video samples and more to be issued over the weeks ahead.
