Instrumental tech metal architects INVOKING THE ABSTRACT will drop their debut full-length, Aural Kaleidoscopes, at the end of the month via Unique Leader Records.
A four-piece unit hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, INVOKING THE ABSTRACT was forged in 2010 by guitarists Tyler Ivey and Evan Garner. Following the release of their first EP in 2012, the pair joined forces with percussionist Ryan Meadows and bassist Joseph Carrabotta. Aural Kaleidoscopes was tracked at The Basement Recording Studios with Jamie King (Between The Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Scale The Summit). Priding themselves on utilizing various approaches to rhythm, phrasing, and playing techniques to convey a sound that transcends genres, INVOKING THE ABSTRACT‘s broad style, containing both soaring guitar solos and groovy mixed meters, creates a blend of catchy hooks accompanied by churning technical metal.
In advance of the release of Aural Kaleidoscopes, today INVOKING THE ABSTRACT premieres second album cut, “Requiem,” via Revolver Magazine, the band noting, “Directly following ‘Locus,’ ‘Requiem’ begins with a deceptively light touch before descending into a pummeling series of driving hooks and grooves.”
Hear “Requiem,” now playing at Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.
And if you missed it, check out the band’s play-through video for “Neocropolis,” initially revealed via Gear Gods, as well as their video clip for “Locus” below.
INVOKING THE ABSTRACT’s Aural Kaleidoscopes will be released on September 30th via Unique Leader Records. Preorder bundles are currently available at THIS LOCATION.
“Aural Kaleidoscopes is a diverse and precise album written to challenge us as musicians and composers,” further describes the band of Aural Kaleidoscopes. “Each song is composed in a different key, none of which are repeated until the final track that transforms the keys into a serialist scale. Some songs are composed to freely flow from one to the next, as others stand alone as achievements in their own right, creating a partial concept album. This album is also our first experiment with completely instrumental arrangements leaving the interpretation of each piece to the listener.”
