This week, Break The Clasp, the debut album from LAE — the Montreal-based psychedelic post-hardcore quintet fronted by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day — is finally available in its deluxe double-12″ vinyl format via The Compound Recs and Battleground Records. A live video of the LP-opener, “Sexy Sadie,” filmed at the band’s first show early this month, has also been released.

LAE‘s thirteen-song, nearly hour-long Break The Clasp was recorded in full analog in main songwriter/guitarist Marc Lucas Ablasou’s woodshop in Montreal by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day, who provides lead vocals to the album, the lineup completed by Ronald Jean-Gilles, Serge Nakauchi Pelletier and Stephane Desgroseilliers. Captured on vintage 1970s equipment utilizing a range of guitars, basses, drums, accordion, trumpet, saws, organs, pianos, electronics and a multitude of vocal styles, the band creates a mystical incredibly heartbreaking four-part storyline of Life, Love, Hope and Death, mastered by Austin at his own Austin Enterprises (Converge, Burn The Priest/Lamb of God, Deadguy), and resembling a Martian relative of Three Mile Pilot, Swans, Slint, Pink Floyd, Shellac and Mogwai.

LAE began performing live earlier this month, having played their first show to a receptive hometown crowd in Montreal which was captured on video. A sample of the performance has been released in the form of “Sexy Sadie,” the first song from the set, and opening track from Break The Clasp, showcasing the sad, explosive and forceful delivery of the band. Heavy Blog Is Heavy is now playing the video, showcasing the band online live for the first time, offering, “It’s very downtuned, heavy rock, and has a sludge vibe to it, which fit vocalist Steve Austin’s unique pipes well…”

LAE’s first official video, created by director David Hall of Handshake Inc. (Today Is The Day, Brutal Truth, Pyrrhon) for the song “To Give You The Stars Above,” is playing at Exclaim! Magazine HERE.

Co-released between The Compound Recs and Battleground Records on CD and digital platforms late last year, LAE‘s Break The Clasp is this available this Friday, September 25th in a deluxe vinyl version.

The beautiful package showcases the otherworldly cover art by Sonny Kay (The VSS, Angel Hair, Gold Standard Laboratories label, etc.) and sees the album pressed on two slabs of 180-gram black vinyl with poly-lined inner sleeves, a full-color gatefold cardboard outer sleeve with front and back cover spot varnish including a free digital download.

Orders for the 2xLP and CD versions of Break The Clasp are now available via The Compound Recs HERE and Battleground HERE, and the record is streaming and available digitally RIGHT HERE.

A new video for the song “Sister” and additional live performances from LAE will be announced in the coming days.

Steve Austin recently scored the upcoming Hollywood release of Addiction: A 60’s Love Story. Directed by Tate Steinseck (Face Off) and set for release through Breaking Glass Pictures, Addiction: A 60’s Love Story takes place in New York City, in 1968. Austin created a dark, afflicted, psychedelic soundtrack to match the film’s delivery. Additionally, several of Austin’s prior recordings were worked into the soundtrack, including the emotional “Broken Knee” ballad from LAE‘s Break The Clasp and several Today Is The Day tracks. Addiction: A 60’s Love Story is set to premiere in Hollywood on November 3rd, 2015. View the film’s official trailer at Entertainment Tonight Online HERE, and the official IMDB listing for the movie HERE.
