The Periapt Of Absence, the latest full-length from Indianapolis death/doom collective MOTHER OF GRAVES is now streaming in its stirring entirety. The premiere comes on the eve of the record’s official release on Friday, October 18th via Profound Lore Records.

The Periapt Of Absence is MOTHER OF GRAVES’ most in depth and significant material to date. Each song provides a poignant exploration of the human experience, where moments of despair are illuminated by glimmers of hope and fleeting beauty. Through eight cathartic tales of heartache, love, and loss, MOTHER OF GRAVES beckons you to delve deep into the recesses of their dark and gloomy world.

Highlighted by Brandon Howe’s soul crushing and poetic vocals, the offering transcends boundaries, delving deeper into realms of sorrow and introspection than their previous works. The album expands upon the band’s notoriously engrossing atmospheres, crushing passages that shine light on their death metal roots, monumental hooks, and melodies that will resonate for years to come.

Decibel Magazine notes, “This slow-motion soul crusher feels vintage in the best way, which is to say, timeless,” while Distorted Sound hails, “a phenomenal collection of death-doom.” Adds Last Rites, “Plenty of today’s bands skate by, and pretty comfortably at that, acing tests that bands from 1994 gave them the answers to. These guys have managed to tinker enough within the well-worn machinery to make the old engine roar with a modern vitality.”

“This slow-motion soul crusher feels vintage in the best way, which is to say, timeless…”  — Decibel Magazine

“…chilly doom for those frosty mornings…” — Metal Injection on “Upon Burdened Hands”

“…a phenomenal collection of death-doom. Tracks such as ‘A Scarlet Threnody’ and ‘As The Earth Fell Silent’ tread the fine line of dynamic textures, displaying an open, delicate edge that naturally flows into an emotive heavyweight bruiser…These elements were apparent on their debut, yet they’ve elected to work harder on drawing these songwriting techniques out and pushing them to the fore. It adds further to the beguiling charm of their sound.” —Distorted Sound

MOTHER OF GRAVES continues their upward trajectory…a remarkable album. It genuinely seems to have captured a lost spark of ’90s doom magic… an essential listen.” —Wonderbox Metal

“With poetic lyrics, melodies drenched in sorrow and aggression, and a knack for writing hooks, they’ve proven to be quite the force in the doom scene.” — Lambgoat

“By honing in on specific taste and capturing the most brilliant essences of early melodic death-doom The Periapt Of Absence remains entertaining, almost too appreciably engaging as their burdensome points of despondency are diarized in rich gothic doom metal tapestry. A high recommendation.” — Mystification ‘Zine

“Plenty of today’s bands skate by, and pretty comfortably at that, acing tests that bands from 1994 gave them the answers to. These guys have managed to tinker enough within the well-worn machinery to make the old engine roar with a modern vitality. How about that ripping, near-blast pace transition to just-quicker-than-comfortable mid-paced groove in ‘Like Darkness To A Dying Flame?’ Or that harmonized tapping lead halfway through ‘Shatter The Visage’ that thrillingly bisects the halves of the song? Or the stately introduction to the title track that feels like entering a Victorian manse, ornate and austere, and wandering down a hall lined with portraits of the dead? I could go on but shouldn’t. You’ll see for yourself on October 18th.” — Last Rites

“The performances here are transcendent, beautiful and showcase a deep understanding of all that is doomed that came before, from Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer to Woods Of Ypres and Subrosa. MOTHER OF GRAVES have gone above and beyond with this release to show they are modern day masters of the craft. It’s hard not to be impressed with this large scope and transcendent release.” —  Two Guys Metal Reviews
