Blood And Bonemeal is the debut LP from New York/New Jersey death/doom act REEKING AURA – formed by members of Unearthly Trance, Grey Skies Fallen, Buckshot Facelift, Thaetas, Afterbirth, and more. The album is now streaming in advance of its official release through Profound Lore Records tomorrow.
REEKING AURA’s devastating and demented Blood And Bonemeal is a concept album centered around the caretaker of a desolate agricultural property and that persons struggles with morbid psychosis. Musically, the band sought to further explore the possibilities of a three-pronged lead guitar team, while the revamped rhythm section held down the bombastic wall of sound.
As with their EP, REEKING AURA again chose to work with well-respected producer Colin Marston at his Menegroth the Thousand Caves studio in Queens, New York, who handled all stages of production on Blood And Bonemeal from tracking to mixing and mastering, with the drums being recorded at Rock N Roll Gas Station Studios on Long Island, New York. The album is completed with artwork by Ion Carchelan.
Blood And Bonemeal, “…does not fuck around,” according to Decibel Magazine’s new review of the album: “The primary focus, however, is on memorable riff-craft punctuated by fittingly loose, but impactful rhythms, and the added percussion of Smith’s array of gutturals, which tonally range from nasty-low to lower-than-Hades.” No Clean Singing heard, “…a brute-force mauler that transforms without warning into a sunlit, cinematic, and uplifting experience, which unexpectedly I found welcome.”
The Quietus proclaims, “Remarkably, Blood And Bonemeal never feels too schizophrenic or disjointed, with savage circle-pit instigators… a monstrous slab of rolling riffery akin to mid-period Bolt Thrower with sprinklings of Disembowelment’s distant, stargazing leads. This is a very promising debut…” Metal Epidemic just posted a 5/5 review of the album which concludes with, “With a heaviness that knows no bounds and vocals that register on the Richter scale, REEKING AURA are poised to make big waves in the death metal scene for years to come, and Blood and Bonemeal is their coming out party!”

The band will play a matinee in Amityville, Long Island on September 3rd, with the band’s Tom Anderer and Rick Habeeb handling double duty, heading into Brooklyn to play Saint Vitus with their other act Grey Skies Fallen that evening. REEKING AURA is a death/doom metal band in the old-school tradition, formed by scene veterans from Long Island and New York City. Originally conceived as a project for guitarists Ryan Lipynsky (Unearthly Trance, The Howling Wind) and Rick Habeeb (Grey Skies Fallen, Buckshot Facelift) to share lead duties, the lineup expanded to include additional guitarist Terrell Grannum (Thaetas, Buckshot Facelift), bassist Tom Anderer (Buckshot Facelift, Grey Skies Fallen), vocalist William “Big Will” Smith (Afterbirth, ex-Artificial Brain), and drummer Keith Harris (Afterbirth).
Since releasing their debut three-song Beneath The Canopy Of Compost EP on Parasitic Records in 2020, the band has parted ways amicably with Harris and welcomed Sam Shereck (Blame God, Stabbed) behind the kit. Though unable to perform live during the pandemic, the group used 2020 and 2021 to write and record their debut full-length album, Blood And Bonemeal.
