Blessed Be My Brothers is the imminent new full-length from atmospheric blackened death metal strategists, SARPANITUM, who feature within their rants current and former affiliates of Mithras, Lantlos and Tenebrous Aeon.
The ten-track follow-up to 2011’s critically-championed Fedelium EP, SARPANITUM‘s Blessed Be My Brothers was composed over a two-year period, tracked at Dreaming Studios UK by drummer Leon Macey (Contrarian, Mithras, The Senseless et al) and delivers a delightfully diseased fusion of traditional death metal, blackened riff onslaughts, and twisted melodic atmospheres all centered on the abysmal consequence of religious warfare. Disciples worshipping at the altars of Gorguts, Nile, Anata, Kataklysm, Morbid Angel, Ulcerate and the like should pay heed.
In celebration of its approaching release via Willowtip Records next month, today the brutality dealers at Decibel Magazine offer up fourth cut, “Glorification Upon The Powdered Bones Of The Sundered Dead,” for public consumption and cerebral intoxication.
Guitarist/bassist Tom Hyde elaborates of the consuming ode, “‘Glorification…’ is an epitome of SARPANITUM which is fast, ancient, atmospheric, brutal death metal with a blackened edge. Expect to be bombarded by blastbeats, pulverized by kick drums, ripped apart by relentless guitars, ascending to divinity by glorious choirs, tremble in the presence of enormous immortal vocals and provoked by imperial, majestic leads and harmonies.” Adds vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Tom Innocenti of the tune’s concept, “The song is about an unspecified individual who awakes in the aftermath of battle. Musically and lyrically it reflects the emotional impact of surviving and the crippling guilt that resides in most of those who would escape death.”

Named in part after Babylonian mother goddess, Sarpanit, meaning “the shining one,” companion of the chief god, Marduk, SARPANITUM has maintained a maniacal DIY ethos, crumbling stages throughout Europe supporting the likes of Insision, Visceral Bleeding, Desecration, The Monolith Death Cult and Macabre since their formation in 2003. Based on Babolyanian folklore, the band’s Galactic Records-released debut full-length, Despoilment Of Origin (2007) was an eloquently guttural performance of mythological blackened death metal that reaped the praise of underground listeners and media outlets in the proverbial “know.” Ultimate Guitar championed its, “stellar… musicianship,” naming it a, “fierce and confident death metal record,” while The Metal Observer, in a 9/10 rating, added, “equal parts brutal and beautiful, SARPANITUM‘s debut is easily one of the best death metal albums to be released this year.” The band’s Fidelium EP, independently-released four years later, reaffirmed their inexorable brutality both sonically and conceptually.
