San Antonio, Texas-based post-hardcore trio THE GRASSHOPPER LIES HEAVY today unveils a visualizer for “Tennessee.” The track comes by way of the band’s A Cult That Worships A God Of Death full-length, set for release this Friday via Learning Curve Records!

Weaving post-hardcore, noise rock, and metal, mixed with a heroic dose of dark post-rock into a distinctly singular sonic tapestry, A Cult That Worships A God Of Death boasts eight tracks that come across like a two-headed beast: its first half, a scorching, riff-filled goliath that stomps and chugs with the fury of a cornered bull, while its side-B bares the more prone side of the animal, with longer, more intricate, and introverted songwriting that allows its ideas to ruminate and evolve. Recorded during the 2020 lockdown, it’s a record that captures the chaos and tribulations of a year gone bad.

Notes guitarist/vocalist James Woodard of the band’s latest video, “‘Tennessee’ is a song about DIY touring and the question that every touring musician has asked themselves countless times: ‘Why am I doing this to myself?’ DIY touring can be a sadomasochistic exercise, but the sick compulsion of rock and roll keeps us going despite common sense dictating otherwise. Also, despite common sense dictating otherwise, the video was created using only analog video equipment, including cameras, document scanners, VHS tapes, and analog video mixers.”

A Cult That Worships A God Of Death was tracked at Woodard’s house with long-time friend and Ecsttatic Studio owner Ali Jaafar (Another Heaven) handling mixing and production, and mastering by James Plotkin (SunnO))), Thou, Electric Wizard). The result is the heaviest, most focused release THE GRASSHOPPER LIES HEAVY has ever released.

“Compromise isn’t exactly high on the agenda for the San Antonio-based trio, which for sixteen years has energized adventurous listeners and confounded the other kind with a brutally loud wall-of-sound approach that defies easy categorization… Extreme metal? Post-hardcore? Experimental? Noise rock? Hard to say. And GRASSHOPPER fans will tell you that’s key to the band’s appeal.” – San Antonio Current

“…the album finds THE GRASSHOPPER LIES HEAVY exploring a sonic landscape that includes elements of post-hardcore, metal, and noise rock – among other like-minded styles.” – No Echo

“…this is weighty, mature stuff, with real bite and ferocity… imagine the riff-heavy swagger of Every Time I Die meets the sludgy onslaught of a band like ISIS… an impressive record that’s well worth your time.” – Distorted Sound

TGLH also exists in an alternate universe. They explore what may have happened if Breather Resist had not broken up in 2006 to form Young Widows and had instead simply kept releasing Jesus Lizard-infused hardcore.” – A Certain Taste
