VAURA: Sables Full-Length From Avant/Post-Metal Collective Featuring Members Of Gorguts, Dysrhythmia, Azar Swan, Kayo Dot, And Tombs Out NOW And Streaming Via Profound Lore

Sables, the latest full-length from Brooklyn, New York-based avant/post -metal collective VAURA is out TODAY via Profound Lore.

Featuring Josh Strawn (Azar Swan) on vocals, guitar and synthesizers, Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts, Dysrhythmia) on guitar, Toby Driver (Kayo Dot) on bass, and Charlie Schmid (Tombs) on drums and electronics, VAURA‘s first output since 2013’s lauded The Missing engages ever more with their UK and German prog/art rock influences to grandiose and eerie effect.

Reaping critical accolades from fans and critics alike, Last Rites notes, “…heaviness comes in all shapes, sizes and disguises, and a record like Sables should find a place in the heart of any person who enjoys heavy as it pertains to dark, drifty goth music that’s as fitting for a soundtrack to investigating a rotting, long-forgotten space station as it is for a Death Guild afterparty. Distress and beauty hanging in a perfect balance.” Observes Post Punk, “while some artists choose to create genre pieces that are borderline pastiche, VAURA has always explored new territory and challenged perceptions, while at the same time creating some of the most interesting, ear-catching records this side of the spectrum.” Heavy Blog Is Heavy champions, “…an exceptional synthesis of styles, infusing the mood and melody of goth rock, post-punk and new wave with progressive, modern ideas. Anyone drawn to the allure of ’80s nostalgia will find a collection of songs replete with bold explorations of how tangential rock subgenres operate, both independently and in unison.”

Sables is out now on CD, LP, and digital formats at THIS LOCATION.

Sables serves as VAURA‘s most refined and contemplative release yet. Introspective and somber, Sables finds the band shedding much of its post-metal heaviness in favor of experiments with brooding kosmische musik and the more avant-garde elements of new wave. While still retaining the distinctive and specific style carved out on the band’s first two releases – Selenelion in 2010 and the The Missing one year later – Sables is the all-vital third LP, a concise collection of meditative compositions on endings and extinctions. Brilliantly complemented by the mixing and production work of legendary UK producer Peter Walsh (Scott Walker, Peter Gabriel), VAURA has delivered their best sounding, most intricate and realized album yet.

“Beautifully progressive…” – Metal Injection on “The Ruins (Hymne)”

VAURA, the Brooklyn avant/post-black foursome, shrouds itself with the cold lines of darkwave, the jangly rhythms of post-punk, the enigma of goth rock, and the enveloping, subtle dissonance of new wave.” – PopMatters

VAURA and their comrades seem to bring about an important revelation regarding the trajectory of popular music and perhaps culture at large… There’s something in the sound of Sables that is both nostalgic yet deeply entwined in some sort of future. Maybe the future started back then, and for better or worse, we’ve been living out those visions ever since.” Burning Ambulance

“Mixing ethereal keyboards, clean vocals, and a penchant for pop songwriting, ‘Basilisk’ is eons past the worlds explored on their debut Senelion yet also right around the corner: VAURA has always been concerned with the beautiful edges of dream pop, shoegaze, and other psychedelic influences that lend itself towards the darkness and those genres related.” — Revolver on “Basilisk – The Infinite Corpse”

“…a truly beautiful record and one that seems very aware of its own internal twists and turns.” – Two Guys Metal Reviews

An unmitigated success.” – Sentinel Daily

“The journey here is one through the darker, distant spaces of life after dark. The spaces between people, between heartbeats, between breaths. The New Order reference (or The Chameleons, The Cure or) is not an accident: Sables gives itself wholly to that world.” – Dead Rhetoric
